The book of Amos is a powerful call to repentance, righteousness and genuine devotion to God, confronting Israel’s prosperity, complacency, injustice and empty worship. Amos reveals that being chosen by God does not exempt His people from accountability but increases their responsibility to live according to His ways. Throughout the book, God exposes the oppression of the poor, corruption of justice, religious hypocrisy and false confidence in wealth, position and religious identity, repeatedly calling His people to “seek me and live.” Even as judgment approaches, God demonstrates His patience by warning, correcting and giving opportunities to return, but Israel’s repeated refusal ultimately brings consequences. But Amos does not end in judgment; it ends with the promise of restoration as God declares that He will rebuild the fallen booth of David, ultimately pointing to Christ, the promised Davidic King, whose kingdom extends to the nations.
